DEPARTMENT OF CIVIL ENGINEERING

                        The Department of Civil Engineering, (Accredited with B grade by the National Board of Accreditation, AICTE), offers B. Tech Degree course in Civil Engineering. The Department has been excelling in its activities since its inception. The departmental activities embrace planning, design, construction and management. A team of 27 dedicated faculty and 9 supporting staff carry out these activities. Apart from academic program  and Research & Consultancy activities, the Department has been taking lead roles in organizing technical seminars, workshops, training programs as well as computer related courses for teachers and field professionals from all over the country. The Department has the privilege of producing many rank holders in the University examinations. The students of the Department actively take part in curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities

                             The department has a well experienced  team of faculty members  specialized in different fields of civil engineering.

           Faculty members have good number of publications in International & National Journals and Conferences to their credit and also have authored text books and books of general interest. Staff members have memberships in various professional bodies viz., American Concrete Institute, Institution of Engineers, Indian Society for Technical Education, Indian Roads Congress, Indian Geotechnical Society, Institute of Valuers, Computer Society of India, Indian Society for Remote Sensing, Indian Science Congress Association. Some of the faculty are  also members in National  Executive Committees  of various professional bodies.

  CURRICULUM

                                 The subjects are well structured and organized and evenly spread among all the semesters in a systematic and scientific way so as to equip a B Tech Degree holder to excel in his professional knowledge and to be ready to meet the challenging industry.  The latest revision of syllabi made in the year 2000-2001 has the following uniqueness:

    Ø        Inclusion of Computer integrated subjects

    Ø        More hands-on practice in computer laboratory

    Ø        Introduction of new Electives for current technological needs

    Ø        Enhancing practical training by including term projects

     The projects undertaken by the students are socially relevant / real-time problems sponsored by various agencies and curiosity driven using the domestic infrastructure. The seminars presented by the students help them in selecting topics of technological interest and in developing the presentation skills.

RESEARCH AND CONSULTANCY CELL

    The faculty of the Department is actively engaged in Sponsored Research work and in providing Consultancy Services in their areas of expertise to the needy organizations and community in general. 

                 The Consultancy Services include:

· Testing and quality assessment of all construction materials

· Planning, analysis, design and detailing and valuation of Civil Engg structures.

· Concrete and bituminous mix design

· Soil investigation and testing

· Quality assessment of water and waste water

· Rural water supply schemes

· Preparation of topographical maps

· Town planning schemes

· Design of traffic control devices

    The major clients include

OTHER FACILITIES

                   DEPARTMENT LIBRARY

                            Apart from the college Central Library , a Department Library has been functioning with more than 3200 volumes of books. Students are effectively utilizing this facility.

                     VISVESARAYA MILLENNIUM HALL

                               An air-conditioned hall with all audio-visual and presentation aids is available in the Department to organize Seminars, Workshops, Invited Lectures and Group discussions.   

                    TUTOR SYSTEM AND COUNSELING

                          For most effective interaction with the students and for better academic excellence Group Tutor system is introduced. There is a Department level Group Tutor Committee. Students  counseling is also done by the Group Tutors. This helps in understanding various problems of students , identifying their weak and strong points by frequent interaction with students during the counseling. It also helps in inculcating discipline among students.
